Vision

What If. . .

What if you had a three year old’s “vision”?

I am sitting in my three year old’s room per his request.  He is playing with Legos and blocks, not building anything in particular or at least I thought. What looked like a big mess and random towers of blocks, jenga pieces, and Legos was actually a city or town. One was a home, another was a “computer tower” and another was “work” and yet another was a tree. Honestly, to me, they all looked about the same. Oh, and the town was infested with robots made of specific jenga pieces with one square block as a head. I had the task of building one of these robots and although it seemed easy, I kept doing it wrong, according to my little supervisor. In other words, he had an idea of what the robots looked like with the blocks and his vision was completed in his mind. It dawned on me that he made a town, robots, and countless other things, none of which anybody could have guessed what they were if asked. His ability to see it in his mind made it a reality, there was no need for perfection. WHAT THE HECK DOES THIS HAVE TO DO WITH THIS BLOG?

What if

EVERYTHING!!!! When we are kids we can visualize anything we want. I am sure you remember dreaming, not just when you were asleep but while awake as well.  We dreamed of being athletes, super heroes and of having awesome cars. Later, as we grow up the programming begins to kick in. We like to call it logic or reason. Logic says, along with other people, you can’t have those things just do this and that and you will be fine. Don’t do anything “crazy.” Go into a trade, finish school or better yet keep going, because logically the more you go to school the wealthier and more successful you will be. Right?

What If?

We all have dreams and aspirations that we have buried deep inside our being. Well I believe if we are to be truly successful we need to start dreaming again. Better yet, we have to have vision of where we want to be and who we want to be. Maybe I can start with a simple question. What if . . . .? Two words I have always found very thought provoking. What if the bulls never drafted Michael Jordan? What if our past leaders chose to sit at home? What if you wrote that book? What if you left that job that was making you miserable? What if you started designing that invention? What if you started eating right and exercising? What if you could spend more time with the people you love and less time in the office?

A few weeks ago I spoke to a friend and he said he wanted to go back to school so he could start writing! I asked him why do you have to go to school for that? He looked at me puzzled. I said, what if you just started writing? I don’t think you need anybody’s permission to start writing. He smiled and agreed. I don’t know if he went home and started writing but hopefully he thinks about it more often. Tony Robbins said, in his ted talk, it is not our resources that determine our success but our resourcefulness. Take some action toward that vision and see what happens. Trust me it will not go as planned but if you are resourceful you will find a way. Later you may realize it was never about the outcome but the journey. That journey you will have to take as you strive to be your best self. Ultimately, who you become and what you stand for are infinitely more important than anything else!

Vision

My visions are much different now than they were when I was a child (I can’t find a legitimate Jedi academy) but I’ll keep striving towards that vision until it is “mission accomplished!” So, who do you want to be when you grow up? What goals are you trying to reach? What are you striving for? I say go for it!! Is it scary? Yeah!! Will you have obstacles? Heck yeah! There will always be reasons not to start or to quit, but stay strong and keep your vision in mind. Those who are building toward their vision do not need to see the finished product in front of them. They are enjoying the journey and know what’s pulling them. What if that vision became a reality? Oh, and don’t worry, the town was saved from those robots by team umi zoomi.

I hope you got value from this. Please comment below and share with your friends! Together We Can Do Anything!!
